How do I install the software?

The Scoreboard programs are all installed the same way- with a "self-extracting" setup program that you run directly from the program links on the Download page. Although you don't really need to understand the actual process, here's how the installation works:

  • Go to the Downloads page and click on the link for the program you wish to install
  • You are presented with a dialog box asking you to either Open, Save, or Cancel the download (some versions of web browsers use the word "Run" instead of "Open") - choose either Open or Run.
  • Depending on your connection speed, the setup program will require several seconds to several minutes to prepare for the installation.
  • You will then be presented with a series of prompts to complete the installation. Just accept all the defaults.
  • You're done !

What do you mean by "registration"?

We make our products available through an approach known as "trialware". To avoid the expense of packaging, marketing, and distributing software through traditional retail outlets, and your risk of buying something you may not really need, you can try out the software on a 15-day trial basis. After that you are prompted to send us a registration payment (check or credit card), and we will return a special "Software Code" to you which will permanently unlock the software for use on that PC. The important thing about this is that a Software Code will only work on one machine (!) - you won't be able to "share" this code with other PCs or with your friends...

In other words, this approach is mutually beneficial; we can keep costs down dramatically, and you get a chance for an extended test drive before you buy.

Where do I enter the Registration Key?

When you receive your Registration Key, enter it into the Step 3 field of the Registration window that displays automatically when you start the program. You will only have to do this once; if you un-install the program or upgrade to a newer version, the registration information will be preserved.

Note: the Registration Key is tied to one, and only one, computer. If you need a new Registration Key (e.g., if you replace the original computer), registered users can request a new Key at no additional cost.

After I register, will I have to reinstall the software?

No - the software is already fully functional; the only difference is that the Registration Key "unlocks" the system to allow it to run indefinitely.

If I upgrade, will I have to register again?

No. Registered users are automatically entitled to free upgrades. To upgrade from one version to the next, just un-install and re-install with the new version- if you have already registered, this information will be preserved.

Why isn't the scoreboard centered in my screen?

The Scoreboard is designed exclusively for 1024 x 768 display resolution, and will not display properly with other resolution settings. If the display does not appear to be centered properly:

  • Start the Windows Control Panel
  • Click Display
  • Click the Settings tab
  • Specify a "Screen area" of 1024 x 768 pixels
  • Click OK or Apply to save this new setting

If after doing this your display still isn't centered, this is probably due to your use of "large" fonts for your Windows environment. To correct this:

  • Start the Windows Control Panel
  • Click Display
  • Click the Settings tab
  • Click the Advanced button at the bottom
  • Select a Font Size of Small Fonts and click OK (some systems require the PC to be rebooted for this change to take effect).

Can I upgrade the software to a newer version?

Yes, registered customers are entitled to free upgrades. If you are downloading an upgrade from the website or from a CD, you could either un-install the version you have and re-install, or you select the "Repair" option from the dialog box that appears from the installation.

Note:If you upgrade your software, your registration information is preserved - you will not need to request a new Registration Key.

How do I display the scoreboard in the second monitor?

If your system consists of dual monitors and the video projection is run through the 2nd monitor, you will need to reassign the "primary monitor" used by the system prior to running the program. From the Control Panel, click Display, then the Settings tab. Next, click on Monitor #2, then click the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox, click Apply. Now when you launch the program it will appear on the other monitor. Remember that you will have to return this setting to its original state afterwards.

How do I change the logo displayed on the Scoreboard?

If you would like to display a different logo, just click the Logo button on the Scoreboard Preferences window that comes up each time you start the program. Then, click the Select button and navigate to the logo image in your file system. Highlight the file, click "Open", then click OK on the Setup form.

Notes

  • Your logo must be of .bmp, .gif, .jpg, or .png format, and must fit in the space in the middle of the screen. The logo will be centered automatically. You may need to experiment with your paint program to make sure the image displays as you would like.
  • A logo file for Upward Unlimited is included with the package for your convenience. It can be found in C:\Program Files\Integrated Display Systems\Basketball Scoreboard\images\upwardlogo.jpg
