How to Operate the Basketball Scoreboard

The Scoreboard was designed to work with the keyboard, although you can highlight fields with the mouse. Before working a game, spend some time becoming familiar with the behavior so you won’t get confused during a critical moment. You should also print out this page to use as a reference for all scorekeepers.

To start the program, click the Scoreboard icon on the Windows desktop, or select Start>Programs>Integrated Display Systems>Basketball Scoreboard>Scoreboard from the Windows Task Bar.

Function Key(s) Comments
Start / Stop the clock Esc When the Time falls below 1:00, the format is changed to display tenths of seconds.
When the Time reaches 0.00, the buzzer will sound automatically.
Highlight scoreboard fields Tab A subtle border appears around each field when highlighted (you can also highlight a field by clicking with the mouse)
Modify scoreboard values Up / Down Arrows After highlighting, all values are modified with the up/down arrows.
Note: Setting the Possession indicator for one team automatically turns it off for the other team.
Reset the clock F12 Enter the minutes, seconds, or tenths of seconds in the text boxes, then click OK. If the clock has reached 0.00, time will be reset automatically to the default period length.
Note: the clock must be stopped
Sound the buzzer Enter The clock must be stopped
Exit the program Alt+F4 The clock must be stopped

Setting your Preferences: When you first start the scoreboard, you will be presented with the following:

The default appearance and behavior of the scoreboard can be customized for a particular game or to match your league's rules. Each of these categories of can be modified independently of the others, and the settings will remain as you specified the next time you run the program, or until they are changed again. You must click OK to save any of the changes you have made. The preferences that can be modified include:

  • Team names
  • Color selections. Click "Use Default Colors" to reset back to suggested color scheme.
  • The logo image displayed in the middle of the scoreboard
  • The default period length in minutes
  • Mouse pointer [you may consider the mouse to be a distraction to fans]
  • Foul and bonus indicators
  • Possession indicators

Note:  if you choose not display the Foul or Possession indicators, those fields are disabled and removed from the tab order sequence.
